Beyond the Classroom — School Events and Activities at The City Academy

A school year is not just exams and syllabus. It is Annual Day performances, Independence Day flag hoisting, Science Exhibition projects, sports day races, and the small moments between that shape character. At The City Academy, Kalaburagi, the co-curricular calendar is full and deliberate.

Annual Events

Independence Day (August 15) One of the most celebrated days in the school calendar. The flag hoisting ceremony, cultural performances, patriotic songs, and speeches by students of every class. Parents are invited. The atmosphere is formal, warm, and deeply community-oriented. Republic Day (January 26) A march past, flag ceremony, and cultural programme. Student council members lead the assembly. Senior students deliver speeches on the significance of the Indian Constitution. Annual Day Our biggest cultural event of the year — typically held between January and March. Students perform dance, drama, music, and skits. Every section participates. Parents fill the school ground. Prizes and awards for academics, sports, and cultural achievements are distributed. Science Exhibition Open to parents and the wider community. Students from Std VI through PU II present science projects that they have designed and built. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science are all represented. The quality of projects from PU students often surprises visitors.

Sports

Inter-house sports competitions across:

• Cricket (boys)
• Kabaddi (boys and girls — the school has won district-level tournaments)
• Athletics (100m, 200m, long jump, javelin — all SSLC and PU age groups)
• Throwball and volleyball (girls)

Students from the school have represented Kalaburagi district in kabaddi and athletics at the state level.

Student Council

From Std VII onwards, students elect a Student Council — Head Boy, Head Girl, and class representatives. Council members manage school events, mediate between students and faculty, and develop leadership skills that no classroom lesson can teach.

Why It All Matters

Parents sometimes ask: "Is all of this not a distraction from studies?" Our answer: students who participate in events, sports, and activities consistently perform as well as — and often better than — those who only study. They manage their time better. They communicate better. They handle pressure better. The board exam is one day. Everything else builds the person.
